“Cold Blooded Wonders”

Rivit! Hiss! Croak! Those cold-blooded wonders are back and will amaze you with their slime and scales. Join us for a look at Grass River’s hoppers, crawlers and slither-ers too. To register, call 231.533.8314.

“Marsh Madness”

It’s all happening here at the Marsh. Come and find out why ducks, turtles, fish, muskrats, and beavers (just to mention a few) wouldn’t live anywhere else. To register, call 231.533.8314.

 

Tuesday, July 24 or Wednesday, July 25 – 10:00 am

“Creepy Crawlers”

How many legs do you have to have before you are considered “creepy?” 6? 8? 100? The bugs of Grass River want to know. We’ll turn over logs and dig into dark places in search of crawly critters. You can vote for the creepiest! To register, call 231.533.8314.

“TREE-mendous!”

That’s what Grass River’s trees are! From the smallest sapling to the tallest pine each tree plays an important role in nature. Find out “who’s who” and what they do to help other plants, animals and people. To register, call 231.533.8314.

“All-A-Flutter”

WETLAND FRIDAYS                                  Kids 7-10 years

NEW!

Calling all junior scientists and nature freaks! If you know a child who really loves the outdoors and gets excited about what he sees or finds, then these classes are for her. For four Fridays in August we’ll take a look at one topic in depth. Class size is limited to 5 children, so register early, 231.533.8314.  

 

Friday, August 3 – 10:00 am          “Go Fish”       

“F” is for fantastic. “I” is for incredible. “S” is for stupendous. “H” is for happy which is what the fish will be when we don’t use hooks to catch them and we let them go. Friday, August 10 – 10:00 am        “Swamp Stomp”

Bring your stomping boots (or an old pair of sneakers) and be prepared to get muddy! We’ll explore the swampy parts of Grass River, off-trail, that many people never see. What’s out there will amaze you!

Friday, August 17 – 10:00 am        “The Scoop on Bugs”

Get a look at bug beginnings as we dip into the underwater world here at Grass River. It’s a busy world in the ripples, on the bottom, and along the bank. We will discover and learn about these little critters that are the basis of life in the wetlands. Class size is limited to 5 children, so register early, 231.533.8314.

 

Friday, August 24 – 10:00 am        “Carnivorous Plants”

Don’t play tootsie with the Sundew or poke the Pitcher Plant!  Carnivorous plants really don’t nibble on us, but bugs beware!!  Discover the survival skills of these exotic plants that live right here at Grass River Natural Area.
